Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions ("Terms") govern use of this website and the Life in the UK test. By accessing and using this website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you should cease use of this website and you should not book an Appointment. You can contact PSI using the details set out in clause 12.1.
1. Definitions & Interpretations
1.1. The following definitions shall apply to these Terms:
Appointment means an appointment booked for a LitUK test at a PSI test centre;
LitUK means Life in the UK;
Minimum Arrival Time means at least 30 minutes before the commencement of your appointment time, unless expressly stated otherwise in any communication from PSI;
Misconduct means
- (a)
Violent, aggressive, intimidating or similar adverse behaviour;
- (b)
Any attempt to cheat, including without limitation bringing into the testing area any material or items and taking a test for another;
- (c)
Attempts to mislead, including without limitation during the identity verification and/or security processes;
- (d)
Copying all or parts of the test in any format and by any means;
- (e)
Removing from the testing area any test questions or other materials, including without limitation note paper;
- (f)
Bribery or other attempts to influence members of staff or results;
- (g)
Any methods to gain an unfair advantage in the test, including any methods of obtaining help of test centre staff during the test;
- (h)
Copying or looking at the screen of other candidates during the test;
- (i)
Use of any electronic devices in the testing area which have not been provided by us;
- (j)
Any writing or ink on your body or clothing whether before, during or after the test;
- (k)
Any other behaviour which in our opinion is adverse to the integrity of the test or the health and safety of any persons or property.
PSI means PSI Services (UK) Limited, a private limited company registered in England and Wales with company registration number 03082717 and registered office address at 5th Floor, One New Change, London, EC4M 9AF (or such other address as updated on UK companies house from time to time);
Our means PSI;
Required Documents means, unless you have booked your Appointment with an eVisa share code, the identification document that you used to book your test and such identification documents must be in original form and any other documents as expressly notified to you by PSI;
Us means PSI;
We means PSI;

You or your means the reader of these Terms and any person who books an Appointment.
1.2. Clause headings shall not affect the interpretation of these Terms.
1.3. Unless the context otherwise requires, words in the singular shall include the plural, and in the plural shall include the singular.
1.4. A reference to legislation or a legislative provision shall include all subordinate legislation made from time to time under that legislation or legislative provision.
1.5. A reference to writing or written includes email.
1.6. Any words following the terms including, include, in particular, for example or any similar expression shall be construed as illustrative and shall not limit the sense of the words, description, definition, phrase or term preceding those terms.
2. This Website
2.1. This Website is owned by and operated by PSI. By using our Website, you confirm that you accept these terms of service and that you agree to comply with them. If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use our Website. We recommend that you print a copy of these terms for future reference.
2.2. We may update and change our Website from time to time to reflect changes to our products, our users' needs and our business.
2.3. Our Website is made available free of charge.
2.4. We do not guarantee that our Website, or any content on it, will always be available or be uninterrupted. We may suspend or withdraw or restrict the availability of all or any part of our Website for business and operational reasons. We will try to give you reasonable notice of any suspension or withdrawal where practicable.
2.5. You are responsible for ensuring that all persons who access our Website through your internet connection are aware of these Terms and other applicable terms, and that they comply with them.
2.6. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. If there is a material impact to your rights under these Terms, we will notify you.
2.7. This Website is directed to people residing in the United Kingdom. We do not represent that content available on or through our Website is appropriate for use or available in other locations.
2.8. The content on our Website is provided for general information only. It is not intended to amount to advice on which you should rely. You must obtain professional or specialist advice before taking, or refraining from, any action on the basis of the content on our Website.
2.9. Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information on our Website, we make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the content on our Website is accurate, complete or up to date.
2.10. Where our Website contains links to other websites (including without limitation any other websites associated with or owned by PSI or its affiliates) and resources provided by third parties, these links are provided for your information only. Such links should not be interpreted as approval by us of those linked websites or information you may obtain from them. We have no control over the contents of those websites or resources. Any links are provided for your convenience only and are accessed at your own risk. We are not responsible in any way for the content of any third party website or for goods or services provided by the operators of such websites and, unless otherwise stated, are not responsible for and do not endorse or recommend any third party website or its availability or contents or any agreement or understanding you enter into with a third party. If you choose to use any of the links provided, you should review the relevant terms and conditions, privacy policy and other relevant documents before use. PSI does not accept any liability for any losses, damages, expense, costs or liability whatsoever suffered or incurred by you in respect of your use of any links to third party websites.
2.11. We do not guarantee that our Website will be secure or free from bugs or viruses. You are responsible for configuring your technology, computer programs and platform to access our Website. You should use your own virus protection software.
2.12. You must not misuse our Website by knowingly introducing viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or other material that is malicious or technologically harmful, or otherwise harmfully interacting with our Website. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to our Website, the server on which our Website is stored or any server, computer or database connected to our Website or any other equipment or network connected with our Website. You must not interfere with, damage or disrupt any software used in the provision of our Website or any equipment or network or software owned or used by any third party on which this Website relies in any way. You must not attack our Website via a denial-of-service attack or a distributed denial-of-service attack or any other form of attack. By breaching this provision, you would commit a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. We will report any such breach to the relevant law enforcement authorities, and we will co-operate with those authorities by disclosing your identity to them. In the event of such a breach, your right to use our Website will cease immediately.
2.13. Whilst we try to ensure that the Website does not contain any error, defect, malfunction or corruption, we do guarantee this and we do not accept responsibility or liability for any damage to or loss of data or other forms of losses you may suffer, including without limitation on your computer system, network or server that results from the download or use of the Website or any materials made available via the Website.
2.14. We cannot promise that access to the website will be uninterrupted or error free. We reserve the right to suspend access to the website between the scheduled maintenance window of approximately 2am to 4am GMT each day. There may also be occasions when access to the website is interrupted for emergency maintenance or repairs or to carry out upgrades to improve the performance or functionality of the website and the services offered via the website. Access may also be interrupted due to failures of telecommunications links and equipment, which are beyond the control of PSI. You acknowledge and agree that PSI shall not be liable for any losses whatsoever in connection with this clause.
2.15. You must not use our Website or any content therein for any business or commercial purposes.

4. Account
4.1. If you choose, or you are provided with, a user identification code, password or any other piece of information as part of our security procedures, you must treat such information as confidential. You must not disclose it to any third party.
4.2. We have the right to disable any user identification code or password, whether chosen by you or allocated by us, at any time, if in our reasonable opinion you have failed to comply with any of the provisions of these terms of service.
4.3. If you know or suspect that anyone other than you knows your user identification code or password, you must promptly notify us using the contact details at clause 12.1.
5. Intellectual Property
5.1. We are the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in our Website, LitUK and in the material published on it or in connection with it. Those works are protected by copyright laws, other intellectual property laws and treaties around the world. All such rights are reserved.
5.2. You may print off one copy, and may download extracts, of any page(s) from our Website for your personal use and you may draw the attention of others within your organisation to content posted on our Website.
5.3. You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any materials you have printed off or downloaded in any way.
5.4. Our status (and that of any identified contributors) as the authors of content on our Website must always be acknowledged.
5.5. You must not use any part of the content on our Website for commercial purposes without obtaining a licence to do so from PSI or our licensors.
5.6. If you use, print off, copy, download, share or repost any part of our Website in breach of these terms of service, your right to use our website will cease immediately and you must, at our option, return or destroy any copies of the materials you have made (except that you are permitted to print off a copy of these Terms).
6. No text or data mining, or web scraping
6.1. You shall not conduct, facilitate, authorise or permit any text or data mining or web scraping in relation to our Website or any services provided via, or in relation to, our Website for any purpose, including the development, training, fine-tuning or validation of AI systems or models. This includes using (or permitting, authorising or attempting the use of):
any "robot", "bot", "spider", "scraper" or other automated device, program, tool, algorithm, code, process or methodology to access, obtain, copy, monitor or republish any portion of our Website or any data, content, information or services accessed via the same;
any automated analytical technique aimed at analysing text and data in digital form to generate information or develop, train, fine-tune or validate AI systems or models which includes but is not limited to patterns, trends and correlations.
6.2. The provisions in this clause should be treated as an express reservation of our rights in this regard, including for the purposes of Article 4(3) of the Digital Copyright Directive ((EU) 2019/790).
6.3. You shall not use, and we do not consent to the use of, our Website, or any data published by, or contained in, or accessible via, our Website or any services provided via, or in relation to, our Website for the purposes of developing, training, fine-tuning or validating any AI system or model.
6.4. This clause will not apply insofar as (but only to the extent that) we are unable to exclude or limit text or data mining or web scraping activity by contract under the laws which are applicable to us.
7. Rules about linking to our Website
7.1. You must not establish a link in such a way as to suggest any form of association, approval or endorsement on our part where none exists.
7.2. You must not establish a link to our Website in any website without express written consent by an authorised representative of PSI.
7.3. Our Website must not be framed on any other Website, nor may you create a link to any part of our Website without express written consent by an authorised representative of PSI.
7.4. We reserve the right to withdraw linking permission without notice.
8. How we may use your personal information
8.1. We will only use your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. Uploading content to our Website
9.1. Whenever you make use of a feature that allows you to create content directly on our Website, upload or share content to our Website, or to make contact with other users of our Website, you must comply with the any standards made known to you and these Terms.
9.2. You warrant that any such contribution complies with those standards, and you are liable to us and indemnify us for any breach of that warranty. This means you will be responsible for any loss or damage we suffer as a result of your breach of warranty.
9.3. We will consider any content you upload to our Website to be non-confidential and not protected by any trade mark, patent or copyright ("non-proprietary"), that is, in the public domain. You own your content, but by providing your content you agree that you are granting us a limited licence to use, store and copy that content and to distribute and make it available to others.
9.4. We also have the right to disclose your identity to anyone who is claiming that any content posted or uploaded by you to our Website violates their intellectual property rights or their right to privacy.
9.5. When you upload or post content to our Website, you grant us the following rights to use that content worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform that user-generated content in connection with the service provided by the website and across different media including in relation to LitUK (including without limitation throughout the process of registration, booking and taking a LitUK test), forever, including sharing of that information, on the same terms as this licence, with the UK Home Office for the purposes of the LitUK test.
9.6. You agree that any content you upload on our Website will be your own and shall not infringe the rights, including without limitation, intellectual property rights of any third party. If you breach this clause 9.6, you shall fully indemnify and hold harmless PSI and/or its clients or licensors as applicable from all third party claims without limitation.
10. LitUK
10.1. This clause 10 governs the LitUK test, including without limitation booking, Appointment, test administration, and result publication. By booking a LitUK test, you agree to be bound by the terms of this clause 10.
10.2. Before booking an Appointment please review the Frequently Asked Questions and What to Expect on the Day document and Privacy policy.
10.3. You may be able to purchase optional services when booking your Appointment. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the optional services available.
10.4. You cannot book a LitUK test less than 24 hours from the booking date.
10.5. During the booking process, we will endeavour to have available appointments at each of our operating test centres within three (3) months of the date of booking.
10.6. You can amend the time and date of your Appointment up seventy-two (72) hours before your Appointment without further charge. You cannot amend your Appointment less than seventy-two (72) hours before your Appointment date. If you need to amend your Appointment less than seventy-two hours (72) before your Appointment, you will need to cancel your booking and you will not receive a refund, and you will need to make a new booking.
10.7. If you fail to attend your Appointment, or you fail to arrive at the correct test centre by the Minimum Arrival Time, in each case for any reason, you will not receive a refund.
10.8. If you are not permitted to take the test at your Appointment due to:
10.8.1. failure to bring all Required Document;
10.8.2. failure to arrive by the Minimum Arrival Time;
10.8.3. Misconduct;
10.8.4. failure of any security and/or ID verification processes for any reason,
then you will not receive a refund. You acknowledge and agree that we may be required to report any of these matters to the UK Home Office and the UK Home Office may take or require us to take further action, which may include cancellation of your Appointment, cancellation of any future test bookings and/or failure of any test you have taken and you hereby acknowledge and agree that this may affect your application for citizenship or settlement.
10.9. You acknowledge and agree that we may temporarily suspend access to test bookings from time to time for planned and unplanned maintenance, repairs, upgrades or improvements. Temporary suspension of booking services may also occur for reasons outside of our reasonable control, including without limitation failure of systems, telecommunications and unexpected staff matters.
10.10. You acknowledge and agree that we shall not be liable to you for any actual or anticipated losses, costs, damages, liabilities, direct or indirect consequences (including without limitation any delay or inability to obtain citizenship or settlement) of any inability to book, take or complete a test.
10.11. If in our opinion you engage in any Misconduct, you may be required to leave the premises and at our absolute discretion, not be permitted to rebook an Appointment at the same test centre or other test centres. You will not be issued a refund. You acknowledge and agree that we may be required to report any Misconduct to the UK Home Office and the UK Home Office may take, or require us to take, further action, which may include cancellation of your Appointment, cancellation of any future test bookings, reports to the Police, and/or failure of any test you have taken, and you hereby acknowledge and agree that this may affect your application for citizenship or settlement. If in our opinion your behaviour merits, we will report you to the police.
10.12. We may retain from you any material or items that have been or could be used for cheating or other fraudulent purposes.
10.13. We may take video or photographic evidence of any Misconduct.
10.14. During the booking process, you must ensure that you provide your personal details (including without limitation, full legal name, date of birth, country of birth, nationality, place of birth, identification document details and identification document expiry date) precisely and that they match the identification documents that you are required to bring to your Appointment.
10.15. You may only take a LitUK test at a PSI approved test centre outside of the UK if you are a serving member of the British Armed Forces, or if you are a dependant of a serving member of the British Armed Forces. Any persons who book a test outside of the UK who do not meet the criteria set out in this clause 10.9 will not be permitted to take the test at their Appointment and will not be issued a refund.
10.16. Once you have booked an Appointment, you cannot change your name and date of birth. If you need to change these details, please cancel your appointment, make a new account and rebook an Appointment. All other personal details can be amended up to 24 hours before the Appointment time. No changes can be made to an Appointment whatsoever less than 24 hours before the Appointment time.
10.17. If you have an eVisa share code you must use that to register for your LitUK test. Alternative forms of identification which are accepted can be found here ID Requirements.
10.18. All identification documents used must be original documents, including those that you bring to your Appointment. Under no circumstances will photocopies, printouts, photographs or other electronic versions be accepted. You will be refused to take the LitUK test at your Appointment if you do not comply with this clause and no refund will be issued. You can contact nationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk for help if you do not have any of these documents.
10.19. You must follow all instructions provided to you during the booking process, in subsequent communications, including booking confirmation emails and reminders, and at the test centre. PSI will not be liable or responsible for the consequences and any losses resulting from your failure to follow such instructions.
10.20. You must bring to the Appointment your Required Documents. Before you are permitted to take the test at your Appointment you must complete an identity verification process whereby your Required Documents are verified. You must successfully pass this verification process. You will not be permitted to take the test at your Appointment if you fail the verification process for any reason and you will not be issued a refund.
10.21. You may be required to allow the test centre to take a passport style photograph of you before the test and you will not be permitted to take the test if you do not comply.
10.22. If you consider yourself to have a disability or learning difficulty and would like to notify us or request special adjustments, you must submit a request for special arrangements during the booking process or contact specialarrangements@lituk.psionline.com.
10.23. If you have a previous gender, which may include a former different name, and do not wish to use this in the test centre or show it on the test result or have any other special requests or concerns please email sensitivebookings@homeoffice.gov.uk before booking a test.
10.24. On completion of your test, you will be provided with your results verbally together with your unique reference number (URN). Your URN must be quoted in all correspondence with the UK Home Office relating to your test. Your URN is unique for each test taken and can also be found on your LitUK account that was used for your Appointment booking. You may also view your test results on your LitUK account.
10.25. We reserve the right to amend results after publication in the event that we discover an error, breach of these Terms, mistake, fraud, irregularity, cheating, Misconduct, failure of any verification or security processes, or other wrongdoing which has the potential to impact the validity and/or integrity and/or accuracy of your test.
10.26. You are not permitted to take from the test session any material or paper, including without limitation any notes that you made during the test. If you do not comply with this clause, we may cancel your Appointment, or if you have completed your test, we may fail your test, in each case without refund.
10.27. You must comply with all instructions communicated to you regarding the LitUK test. Any failure to comply could result in us cancelling your appointment or failing your test, in each case without refund and we may be required to notify the UK Home Office.
10.28. If you suffer from any technical difficulties during your test, you must alert a member of staff immediately. If we are unable to recover your test or resolve the issue, we will allow you to book a new Appointment free of charge on a different day subject to availability.
11. Liability
11.1. Subject to clause 11.2, we shall have no liability to you for any:
- 11.1.1. Use or misuse of our Website, its content, facilities and/or any services offered on our Website;
- 11.1.2. Refusal to allow you to take a LitUK test for the reasons set out at clause 10.8 or any breach by you of these Terms;
- 11.1.3. Any inability to book a test as set out at clauses 2.4, 2.14 or 10.9;
- 11.1.4. Any inability to use our Website;
- 11.1.5. Use or reliance on any content displayed on our Website;
- 11.1.6. Any results of a LitUK test, including any changes pursuant to clause 10.25;
- 11.1.7. Any use of the results of a LitUK test (including those which are subsequently changed pursuant to clause 10.25), including without limitation in any citizenship or settlement applications;
- 11.1.8. loss of profits, sales, business, earnings, opportunity, anticipated savings, goodwill, reputation or revenue (in each case whether anticipated or otherwise);
- 11.1.9. any loss or corruption of data;
- 11.1.10. any indirect or consequential losses or damages.
11.2. Nothing in these Terms shall limit or exclude liability for:
- 11.2.1. death or personal injury caused by negligence;
- 11.2.2. fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- 11.2.3. any matter in respect of which it would be unlawful to exclude or restrict liability.

12.2. Amendments to these Terms
We reserve the right to amend these Terms from time to time. When we make a change, we will update this page of the Website. If we do so, the updated version will be effective as soon as it is uploaded on to this Website. The date of the last revision to these Terms is provided at the end of the Terms. We recommend that you visit this page each time you visit the Website to ensure that you are aware of and are complying with any changes that We have made to these Terms. If you use the Website you will be deemed to have accepted any amended Terms from the point at which the changes were uploaded to this Website.
12.3. Waiver
No failure or delay by a party to exercise any right or remedy provided under these Terms or by law shall constitute a waiver of that or any other right or remedy, nor shall it preclude or restrict the further exercise of that or any other right or remedy. No single or partial exercise of such right or remedy shall preclude or restrict the further exercise of that or any other right or remedy.
12.4. Severance
If any provision or part-provision of these Terms is or becomes invalid, illegal or unenforceable, it shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid, legal and enforceable. If such modification is not possible, the relevant provision or part-provision shall be deemed deleted. Any modification to or deletion of a provision or part-provision under this clause shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the rest of these Terms.
12.5. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms, their subject matter and their formation, are governed by English law. We both agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.
